‘Oliver’ Diaries: Act 2, Scene 1 Rehearsal 4 (16th March 2018)

Once again, it was an ‘Oom-Pah-Pah’ Friday!

I had been so hyped up all day, due to excitement over what we were doing for Mrs. Culkin’s birthday and this rehearsal. Even better: everyone else’s spirits seemed high too!

Another teacher needed to speak to Mrs. Culkin about something during our rehearsal, so we ran through the part of ‘Oom-Pah-Pah’ we’d choreographed the week before several times with Miss Baron. Despite having to sing it over and over, I somehow didn’t get sick of the song. In fact, I got a little more enthusiastic every time round!

The rehearsal went quite well and it was so much fun! With every run through, I grew in confidence with the song and saw more opportunities to bring more character into it! One thing that was added, though not suggested by me, was interaction between Ellie (Bet), Taylor and I during the line “Same blushing rose;” this was a good idea, and worked well when we figured out how we should do it. It was unfortunate that getting to the stage of knowing how we should do it involved Ellie nearly dropping me and me accidentally whacking her in the face though!

As I knew I would, I struggled to breathe a lot during the song as we rehearsed. With the singing alone, I’m fine but singing the song much more loudly whilst dancing around? That’s going to take some practice… Not to mention that I’ll need to do the dancing in heels! I know that this will all be quite challenging and I’m slightly terrified that my heels will fly off my feet as they will be half a size too big for me (my feet are tiny!), but I know I can do it so long as I practice a lot and I actually can’t wait to perform the song!

Se you next time!
