‘Oliver’ Diaries: Act 2, Scene 1 Rehearsal 3 (9th March 2018)

It was ‘Oom-Pah-pah’ time! Yes, we had rehearsed act 2, scene 1 before but never the first part! Every time I've checked the rehearsal schedule for this month, seeing “Act 2, Scene 1: 1st part,” has immediately filled me with excitement! It was finally the day!

…and that was when my nose and throat decided they’d let me down.

Luckily, my throat wasn’t hurting anywhere near as badly as it had been the previous day so it was just my nose I had to deal with. While I did need to be careful with my throat, not being able to hear myself properly due to a cold was my biggest problem.

Despite being slightly ill, my enthusiasm did not falter! We worked together to choreograph ‘Oom-Pah-Pah,’ and I loved every second of it! The song is quite ‘dancy,’ which is a good thing for me as dance is something I have little experience in, but would love to do more! Furthermore, we freely interact with each other a lot throughout the song, and there’s just something about doing scenes like that I absolutely love!

Mrs. Culkin knew my throat wasn’t at its best today, so she didn’t push me to sing. However, my throat wasn’t hurting much anymore and I so wanted to sing the song, so I did but I just took it easy. As I knew the lyrics, my hands were free to use for interaction as I sang, which made me realise that hand gestures aren’t really my strong point.

With each run through of ‘Oom-Pah-Pah,’ I became more aware of, not only my hand gestures, but my facial expressions and other means of interaction too. As the song has so much room for character, it was - as always - so much fun to sing!

As all good things must though, the rehearsal came to an end and, hoping we wouldn’t forget what we’d worked on in the hour, Mrs. Culkin dismissed us.

I can't wait to rehearse the song again! Roll on next Friday!
