'Oliver’ Diaries: Watching (Some of) the Show for the First Time! (7th February 2018)

It was our first 3-5pm rehearsal!

Although I wasn’t needed (Nancy only comes in during act 1, scene 6), I really wanted to go and see how everything was going so far.

At the very start of the rehearsal, Mrs. Culkin disclaimed to the other year 10s and I that the scenes would get better in time, as they had just started rehearsals, and asked us not to judge. Despite this, she wasn't impressed with us for clapping the 'orphans' after they ran through ‘Food, Glorious Food!’

I loved every moment of watching the rehearsal! Maddy, a year 7 playing an orphan, had a small solo in ‘Food, Glorious Food,’ which we all (Mrs. Culkin included) expressed adoration for every single time. The other orphans were great too and I thought Keeley (who's in my Drama class) was brilliant in her role as Mrs. Bumble!

Throughout the two hours, I learned that I really should bring snacks and playing cards for long rehearsals; I’m always hungry and I realised that there will be a lot of time during the rehearsals in which I won't be needed.

To my dismay, we had to leave before the rehearsal was completely over; the rehearsal overran slightly and Tahreem, who I'd already told my Mum I'd get the bus with, was ready to leave at 5 o'clock. When we left, everyone was rehearsing ‘You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket or Two.'

I thought everything was coming along well and was filled with even more excitement for our school show!

Join me next time to find out how my first rehearsal went!
